PLAY DAYS
Grade 8: Tuesday and Thursday
Junior: Monday and Wednesday
Note: If a game needs to be rescheduled, please make accommodation with the other coach and contact the league coordinator with the change.
GAME LENGTH
8 minute quarters/stop time
overtime periods are 3 minutes/stop time
1 min between overtime periods
1 additional time out per overtime period
each overtime period is started with a jump ball
STARTING TIMES
the first game must begin by 3:30 p.m.
the second game will begin 15 minutes after the end of the first game
Note: Teams will forfeit the game if they have not arrived by 3:45 p.m., or have not contacted the host school regarding the delay.
OFFICIALS
each home team must provide officials for grade 8 games.
Grade 8 Games - there must be 2 officials per game, one of whom must be an adult – if not, the host team will forfeit the game.
junior games will have WABO officials
there should be a scorekeeper, a timer and a 30 second operator for every game
an official score sheet must be used (coaches should retain their copy of the score sheet in case of a discrepancy between scores)
PROTESTS
coaches should remember there is a policy for protests
at the end of the game, tell the other coach that you may, or are going to, protest the game
sign the score sheet stating that it is “under protest” i.e.—“under protest at 3:24 of the third quarter
contact the league coordinator
contact the DSSAA President (Bryan Fischer – [email protected]) by phone and send a written letter within 72 hours
PRESSES and HALF COURT ZONES
There are no defensive restrictions at the grade 8 level. However:If a team is leading by 25 points or more, and the coach deliberately sets a full court press, the coach will receive a warning. The second occurrence with a lead of 25 or more will result in a technical foul.
There are no defensive restrictions for Jr. boys and girls
Note: Zone Defenses and All Presses are allowed at the Fraser Valleys and BC’s
GRADE 8 BENCH ROTATION
there are no bench rotation restrictions
player floor time is at the discretion of the coach, however, equal playing time for all players is encouraged for league and playoffs at the grade 8 level
